Abstract

950,271. Conveyers. STANDARD MOTOR CO. Ltd. April 11, 1960 [April 9, 1959], No. 11959/59. Heading B8A. In a system for conveying and storing articles' such as vehicle bodies, wherein the articles are transferred from a transverse feed conveyer 3 to a transporter carriage 5 by means of conveyers 1, each conveyer 1 comprises a plurality of sections such as 1A, 1B, 1C each provided with individual normally continuously driven conveying means and with individual control means which are operable to stop the conveying means of a section when the section is occupied by one article and when, simultaneously, the section immediately in front of that section is occupied by another article, except that the control means of the section 1C at the leading end of the conveyer 1 is operable to stop the conveying means of the section 1C unless the carriage 5 is aligned with that section. The conveyer 3 may be replaced by a carriage 5 and vice versa and a transverse conveyer 3 may be provided intermediate the ends of conveyers 1. Each section of conveyers 1 comprises rollers 9 mounted on a frame 8 and driven by means of an electric motor 11 mounted on the frame and the carriage 5 comprises a frame 25 provided with wheels 26, 27, which run on rails 29 and are driven by means of an electric motor 28, and with rollers 32 driven by means of an electric motor 34. The conveyer 3 comprises a pair of driven endless chains supporting skids 15 on which the vehicle bodies are carried and the adjacent section of the conveyer 1 comprises driven rollers supported on a frame which extends beneath the upper run of the conveyer chains and which is adapted to be raised by an hydraulic ram whereby the rollers raise the skids from the chains. An electric control circuit Fig. 12 (not shown), is described whereby the electric motor of one conveyer section is stopped when a trip switch is operated by an article occupying the section immediately in front of that section and when a further trip switch is operated by an article occupying that section.
