Abstract

The system uses trucks receiving and delivering loads and a number of racks, with travel rails in them, divided both in the vertical and in the horizontal directions. Loading and discharge lifts travel along the inlet and outlet sides of the racks respectively, each having a cage traveling up and down and accommodating a truck, and automatic controls on the inlet and outlet sides transfer the loads between rack inlet and outlet with the aid of one of the trucks. These controls also regulate the lift (4) and cage, in which there are a pair of travel rails (7) which can be brought into line with those in the rack (1) to allow transfer of the truck (5). After the truck has transferred a load to or from a lift, the controls return it to the respective rack, whenever the other truck is to be loaded at the rack where the next loading or discharge operation is to take place, or retain it in the lift for transport to the system inlet or discharge point, whenever the other truck is not to be loaded at the other rack.
