Abstract

1338218 Loading and unloading bulk containers; roller conveyers J S SIEDER 9 Dec 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 44685/69 Headings B8E B8A and B8Q An arrangement for loading or unloading a bulk load container BC which is supported on pallet means PM on to or off a vehicle V comprises a vehicle bay VT for receiving the vehicle V, a dock area DK adjacent the vehicle bay VT, at least one slipper device B as described and claimed in Specification 1,316,267, and shown in Fig. 9, and a plurality of mobile skid devices C, D. If the floor of the vehicle V and the dock surface DK are not level a scissor-lift A is also used. Both the slipper device B and the scissorlift A have roller conveyers on their load-receiving surfaces. In use the scissor-lift A is moved along tracks T to align with the vehicle V and used to transfer a pair of the slipper devices B to the vehicle V where, in the deflated condition, i.e. with air bags 121 exhausted, they can be slid under a bulk container BC on their spring-loaded rollers 120. After raising, by inflation of the air bags 121, the bulk container BC can be run along rollers 122 on to rollers 120 on the scissor-lift A. The bulk container BC is then lifted so that with skid device D positioned adjacent the scissorlift A it can be slid on the rollers 120 to overlap the skid device D, whereupon it can be lowered so that its leading edge is supported thereby. The bulk container BC is then run, on the skid device D over the dock edge until the rear end can be supported on the skid device C, if necessary raising and lowering the scissor-lift A slightly to permit this. The skid devices C, D incorporate endless roller tracks and those of the latter are steerable. If the bulk container BC is to be stored on the dock area DK it may be transferred from the skid devices C, D to fixed stands E by the aid of jacks. Loading is the reverse of the above procedure.
