Abstract

In a process wherein textile materials consisting wholly or partly of fibrous cellulose are dyed with a reactive dyestuff, contacted with a resin-finishing agent in an aqueous liquor, and then baked to cure the resin, a cationic dye-fixing agent which is free from anionic water-solubilising groups but contains one or more quaternary ammonium groups, is added to the aqueous liquor containing the resin-finishing agent. The dyestuff may react with the cellulose or with the resin. The dye-fixing agent may be a compound having an ammonium group and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic residue of at least 10 carbon atoms; a condensation product of formaldehyde with dicyandiamide or urea and dicyandiamide in the presence of an amine or ammonium salt; the condensation product of an aldehyde with a hydroxyalkyl derivative of an amino or imino compound, in the presence of salts of nitrogen-containing inorganic or organic bases; a condensation product of a nitrogen-containing complex copper compound with a compound containing the group <FORM:0952680/D1-D2/1> and with an aldehyde; an acid salt of a condensate of cyanamide, dicyandiamide, or a guanidine, with a polyalkyleneimine; an arylene or alkylene biguanide; or a quarternary salt of a polymerized ethylenically unsaturated compound containing an amino group. Examples are given.
