Abstract

1277851 Methylene-bis-acrylamide / formaldehyde condensates; textile-treating compositions CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 10 Aug 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 38374/70 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] A novel condensate is obtained by reaction in aqueous alkaline solution of 1 mol. of methylenebis-acrylamide, CH 2 (NH.CO.CH=CH 2 ) 2 , with at least 2 mols. of formaldehyde. Preferably 2-4 mols. of CH 2 O are used, at 60-90‹ C. and pH 7À5-8À5. The product is used in textile treating compositions, preferably as a solution containing 20-80 g.p.l. of the product and 30- 100 g.p.l. of a conventional crease-resistanceimparting resin, e.g. the dimethylol derivatives of ethyleneurea, propyleneurea, dihydroxyethyleneurea, or methyl, ethyl or propyl carbamate, or hexamethylolmelamine. In examples such a product is used with dimethylol-ethyleneurea, -propyleneurea, or -methylcarbamate or hexamethylolmelamine and MgCl 2 .6H 2 O as catalyst.
