Abstract

Spigot and socket coupling parts 3, 1 include closure valves 9, 6 adapted to be opened upon the coupling of the parts, and one of the valves comprises a valve member which can tilt to accommodate slight misalignment of the parts. As shown, the socket 1 has a valve 6 urged by a spring 7 on to a seating 8, the valve being provided with a spherical seating 6<SP>1</SP> and carried by a spindle 19 so mounted in a boss 20 as to be tiltable, and the spigot incorporates a hollow piston valve 9 urged by a spring 10 into engagement with a seating 11 on a component 12; the valve 9 has a substantial working clearance 22 in a boss 23 and so as to be movable radially. Projections on a sleeve 4 of the spigot co-operate with rollers 14 on the socket to move the spigot into the socket upon rotation of a hand wheel 5 secured to the sleeve. The socket may be attached to a float by a quick-release connection 25 and incorporate a towing eye.
