Abstract
950,466. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 9, 1960, No. 16274/60. Heading H1D. In a thermionic valve comprising a cathode 8, Fig. 3, surrounded by a grid 9 and at least one further electrode 10, adapted for assembly by passing each electrode over or into another, the grid comprises a wire wound under tension, about two side rods 1 which are spaced at their ends by straps 2, 7. At one end the cathode and the side rods are reduced in thickness to accommodate the .straps 7, and the spacing between the grid winding and the active portions of the surrounding electrode is less than the thickness of a strap, e.g. 0.008 inch. As shown, the electrodes are mounted between mica bridges 12, 13 centred with respect to the envelope by means of rods 14 and mica discs 15. The straps 20 of the screen grid 10 are bowed outwardly to accommodate the straps 2 of the control grid 9. Lugs 22 on the anode 11 lock the bridge pieces in place relative to the electrodes. Suitable dimensions and spacings for the electrodes are given. In particular the cathode and control and screen grids may be spaced a distance of 0.003 and 0.007 inch respectively. The screen grid operating voltage is 50 v. and the amplification factor of, the valve is 19.
