Abstract

1,169,135. Mass spectrometers. BELL & HOWELL CO. 8 Feb., 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 6205/68. Heading H1D. In a mass spectrometer of the quadrupole. monopole or dualpole type the spacing between the electrodes in the analysing region is reduced at one or both ends to reduce the length of the fringing fields and to increase transmission efficiency. In the figure the spacing between electrode rods 21, 23 is reduced at the ion entry end by enlargments only in the Y- direction. In alternative embodiments discs or collars may be provided on the ends of the electrodes.
