Abstract

1,159,494. lonization monometers. EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 11 Dec., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966], No. 55551/66. Heading H1D. An ionization gauge having a filamentary cathode 1 (shown in end view) includes a pair of parallel electron collector anodes 3 and a pair of parallel ion collector electrodes 2, the said two pairs of electrodes being disposed at rightangles to each other to define a box-like region through which the filamentary cathode passes. The filament 1 of platinum 10% rhodium alloy coated with yttrium oxide is tensioned by a wire spring at each end. The anodes 3 are mounted at the edges of an aperture in a plate 4, and the ion collectors 2 are connected together by a strap 5. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the filament 1 is tensioned by an S-shaped spring at one end, the anodes 3 are formed integrally with the plate 4, and the ion collectors 2 are flat plates. The construction is stated to extend the linear measuring range from 10<SP>-6</SP> torr to pressures as high as 1 torr.
