Abstract
904,222. Electron beam apparatus. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Dec. 19, 1958 [Jan. 17, 1958], No. 41143/58. Class 39 (1). An electron beam deflection tube consists of a cathode 14, Fig. 5, two anodes 18 and a pair of deflecting electrodes 20, the anodes being disposed in a mutually facing relationship on either side of the undeflected beam path and the electrodes 20 being similarly disposed between anodes. The anodes may be parallel to the undeflected path and the electrodes 20 or they may all be inclined as shown, the ends of the anodes remote from the cathode being nearer together and nearer to the deflecting electrodes. The deflecting electrodes are preferable open wire grids held in place by rods 25 which are preferably disposed clear of the beam path. The cathode may have a control grid 22 and accelerating grid 15, and suppressor and screen grids may be interposed between electrodes 20 and the anode. The whole is preferably enclosed in a shield member 28 which has a re-entrant portion shown at 12, Fig. 6, which serves to reflect electrons which pass between the anodes back towards the deflection electrodes but clear of the rods 25.
