Abstract
930,386. Cathode - ray storage tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. May 4, 1961 [Aug. 29, 1960], No. 29767/60. Class 39 (1). A scan conversion cathode-ray tube comprises an electron gun 9 adapted to scan a charge-storing mesh 6 with an electron beam modulated in accordance with a first set of standards, an electron source 8 for projecting a uniform flood of electrons towards the mesh 6, a charge-storing target 4 positioned to receive flood electrons passing through mesh 6, and an electron gun 1 adapted to scan target 4 in accordance with a second set of standards to derive output signals. As shown, the part of the tube comprising electron gun 1, and an associated electron multiplier, and glass target 4 may be similar to the corresponding parts of an image orthicon tube. The dielectric mesh 6 and associated collector mesh 7 may be replaced by a storage mesh structure including a grid on each side as described in Specification 900,365. The writing gun 9 may be arranged on the tube axis, the flood gun 8 being replaced by a large area cathode extending right across the tube, Fig. 2 (not shown). Erasure pulses controlled by frame synchronizing pulses from the input or output signals may be applied to the backing electrode of the storage mesh 6.
