Abstract

A nickel base alloy comprises <TABS:0946944/C3/1> An alloy of the above composition is solution heat treated at above the Ni3(TiAl) solubility temperature but below the solidus for at least 1/4 hour, e.g. 1 - 10 hours, and preferably not more than 4 hours, then isothermally heat treated for at least 1/4 hour at a temperature not more than 50 DEG C. below the Ni3(TiAl) solubility temperature and, in any case, not less than 1075 DEG C., e.g. 1100-1125 DEG C. The alloy may be directly transferred from the first to the second stages or it may be air cooled to substantially room temperature prior to carrying out the second part. After these first two heat treatment steps the alloy may be cooled to 950-1050 DEG C. and kept at this temperature for a further period of at least 1/4 hour. The Provisional Specification discloses the following wider ranges: <TABS:0946944/C3/2> with Ti + W + Nb + V \sO 15 %. Specifications 583,845, 715,140 and 731,441 are referred to.
