Abstract

945,473. Locomotive drive gear. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 14, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13119/59. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] A rail wheel 10 is resiliently coupled to a hollow quill shaft 12 by circumferentially spaced precompressed rubber pads 26 bonded between concave and convex plates 30, 39 which are respectively connected to the wheel 10 and a flange 13 fast with the shaft 12. The pads 26 and plates 29, 30, as shown, are conical but may, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), have a V-shaped radial cross-section. The plate 30 is retained in position and the precompression adjusted by a screw 32 which engages a threaded bore in the wheel and is locked by a cap 34 bolted to the wheel, a hexagonal projection 35 of which cap engages a complementary recess in the screw. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the plates are bolted directly to the wheel. The output 15 of a driving motor 16 meshes a gear 14 fast with the flange 13.
