Abstract

834,920. Resilient mountings. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. April 18, 1958 [Jan. 21, 1957], No. 2145/57. Class 108(3) [Also in Group XXXI] A nose suspension unit for an electric traction motor comprises a cylindrical casing 6, Fig. 2, into which is inserted a compressed assembly of nose piece 8 and segments 10 bonded to rubber or like composition 13 having parts subjected, during operation, to increased compressive stress and other parts to reduce compressive stress, the casing and nose piece being secured between the housing of, and a bearing member 5 for, the motor. The member 5 runs transversely of and is connected with the bogie frame containing the axle on which the motor is mounted. Screwed holes 17 in the segments 10 enable the latter and the nose piece 8 to be withdrawn from the casing 6 while fretting between the bore of the casing and the cylindrical faces of the segments 10 is prevented by the engagement of tapered rims on the segments with similar rims on the casing and its cover (not shown). The casing has a flange for connection to the motor housing. In Fig. 4 the nose piece- 8 has wings 24 bonded by rubber 25 to a sector 22 and to segments 21. In a further modification the nose piece comprises a cylindrical part and arcuate members within the casing 6 bonded to interposed strips of rubber. The positions of the nose piece and casing may be interchanged.
