An idler wheel 22 of an endless track vehicle is mounted in a support 24 slidable on the vehicle frame 16 and is urged into tracktensioning contact with the track by a spring 38 which bears against a boss 104 of a member 110 attached to the sliding member 24. The other end of the spring bears against the end 78 of a member which comprises a cylinder 48 fitting in a fluid tight manner over a stationary piston 46 anchored to a bracket 30. Fluid, e.g. grease, under pressure, may be admitted to the interior 64 of the cylinder 48 through an inlet member 58 or controllably withdrawn through a member 60, the fluid pressure being regulated to adjust the pressure from the spring 38 of the wheel 22 against the track. The spring may also be compressed, e.g. during assembly, by rotating a nut 98 on a threaded shaft 96 connected to the cylinder member 48 and passing through the boss 104. The limit of compression of the spring is determined when the face 102 of the cylinder member contacts the boss 104.
