Abstract

713,991. Fluid-pressure actuated valves. GRATZMULLER, J. L. April 4, 1952 [April 10, 1951], No. 8674/52. Class 135 A pressure regulating, e.g. reducing or safety valve, has a diaphragm 15 having a piston backing member 9 with a rod 3, the rounded periphery of the member and a washer 10 mounted on the rod sliding respectively in a cylinder 1 and a holiow screw 5 which adjusts the compression of the diaphragm loading springs 12 through an abutment member 11 slidable in the cylinder. The valve 28 has a ball and socket connection with a plate 33 connected by rods 29 to a plate 13 secured to the diaphragm and member 9. The rods have longitudinal play at 31 and 34 and lateral play in holes through a partition 17 containing the inlet 18, valve seat 36 and outlet 48, 50, 49. The casing comprises covers 16, 20 and partition 17 bolted together at 24, while the cylinder 1 and its end cover 6 are secured in place by shoulders 25, 26 engaging the casing and cylinder respectively under the compression of the springs. In a modification for high outlet pressures, the valve and seat are smaller, the valve is loosely pinned to the member 33 and has a plunger in a casing socket. In another modification acting as a safety valve, the valve member is directly secured to the diaphragm.
