681,506. Valves. RATELBAND, J. B. Oct. 16, 1950 [Oct. 20, 1949], No. 25174/50. Class 135. A valve comprises an elastic sleeve-like diaphragm 6 having integral clamping flanges 12 intermediate the ends of a streamlined body 4 with which the diaphragm co-operates, and a connection 17 by which pressure fluid may be admitted to a chamber 16 for urging the diaphragm into engagement with the body 4. Annular ribs 8, which are clamped by rings 9 and are preferably formed with radial cuts, return the diaphragm on the release of pressure. Wire gauze or woven fabric inserts 13 strengthen the flanges 12. Extensions of the diaphragm between the flanges 12 and flanges 7 may be dispensed with, in which case the body 4 which, as shown, is supported by ribs 5, may be united to either of end parts 1, 2 of the housing. The pressure for actuating the valve may be derived from a piston and cylinder device.
