Abstract

819,863. Screwing up nuts &c. DESOUTTER BROS. Ltd. April 4, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10224/55. Class 83 (3). A nut-runner comprises a pneumatic, electric or other motor 1 driving, through gearing 3, a shaft 2 connected by helical splines 9 to a tool holder 10, which is urged by spring 13 to abut a stop 12 on the shaft. The runner is applied to a nut &c. and spring 13 is compressed. When the nut has been tightened and the motor stopped, the runner is withdrawn axially from the nut, and spring 13 causes the holder to turn reversely relative to shaft 2, thus freeing the tool from the nut. Several runners for simultaneous operation, may be secured to a jig 7 by nuts and bolts 8 engaging a flange 6 on each runner body.
