Abstract
945,161. Capping bottles. ROBINSON BROS. CORK GROWERS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1960 [Feb. 25, 1959], No. 6475/59. Heading B8T. A machine for applying partiallyformed tamper-proof caps to bottles and jars comprises a cam-operated platform 6 for moving the bottle with its cap upwardly against a stationary head 3 containing means 35 for causing the skirt of the cap to conform to the screw-threaded neck of the bottle, and means actuated by the movement of the bottle to protract dies into contact with the lowest part of the skirt and cause it to conform to a groove in the bottle. The platform 6 is reciprocated by a cam 8 driven through gearing 11, 12 from an electric motor (Fig. 1, not shown) which also drives a rotatable sleeve 26 carrying pivoted spinning tools 35 for shaping the upper part of the skirt to the screw-thread on the bottle. An apertured platform 22 is slidable in guides 21 in the head as the bottle neck C engages the aperture in the platform and thus the dies 23 are protracted, to press the skirt into engagement with the groove R, by pivoted links 25. As the platform lowers again a spring- loaded conical surface 38 forces apart the spinning tools 35.
