Abstract

1,025,382. Bottle capping machines. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3640/62. Heading B8T. A bottle-capping machine, which is fed with bottles having screw-threaded necks and each bearing a loosely fitting metal cap, comprises individual bottle carrying tables 7 which are driven synchronously with corresponding roller heads 8 around the central axis of the machine. Each roller head comprises one or more rollers 23 rotatable around the cap to force the skirt of the cap into the grooves formed by the thread on the bottle neck. Each table is indexed vertically by a lifter engaging a cam 13, the lifter being kept in contact with the cam by springs. A pressure pad 16 receives the top of the bottle, when the latter is introduced into the head 8 and a roller cam ring 21 and its associated bell-crank 22 force the rollers 23 against the bottle neck. Individual electric motors 18 drive the heads through gear boxes 19. When the thread has been formed on the cap the table retracts and the bottle is removed. The metal caps are fed from a motor-driven feed hopper 11 through an associated photoelectric control.
