Abstract

1293747 Applying closures to bottles HOLSTEIN & KAPPERT MASCHINENFABRIK PHOENIX GmbH 15 July 1970 [19 July 1969] 34284/70 Heading B8T Plastics closures, comprising a hollow stopper 24, a supporting flange 27 and a tear tab 3, are automatically mounted on bottles in two steps by a closure device which is reciprocated, by a cam track (not shown), along a circular path. After centering a closure on a bottle by utilizing a ring 26, a spring 14 applies initial closuring pressure to the closure via a ram 16. Then, during progressive movement of the closure device along its circular path, springs 14, 15 act on the closure. Simultaneously thereby causing an inner ram 18 to enter the hollow stopper 24 and the ram 16 to apply pressure to the flange 27 as before but with an increased pressure since a guide pin 22 now engages in a slot 21 thereby forming a rigid connection between rams 16, 18, 10.
