796,809. Applying screw closures to collapsible tubes. MASCHINENFABRIK WINKLER, FALLERT & CO., AKT.-GES. March 11, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 7917/57. Class 125(2). Relates to apparatus in which collapsible tubes 23 are carried on mandrels 24 mounted in a turret plate 30 which is intermittently rotated to bring the tubes successively into alignment with means for applying a screw closure 2. According to the invention, an applicator 43 daubs the thread on the tube neck with oil, the mandrel is advanced and rotated into a closure restrained against rotation by a rubber pad 26, and finally the tube with the lightly applied closure is advanced into a closure key 31 and rotated to give the final tightening. The applicator 43 is mounted on a lever 8 carried by a rod 10 moved to and fro by a cam 12 to advance the applicator to the tubes. Through a link 35, the lever 8 also actuates a plunger 33 to eject the tube with its tightened closure from the key 31. The closures are fed down a shoot 4 to the rubber pad 26. A cam 15 through levers 16 advances members 18, 29, the latter being continuously rotated by gears 27, so as to engage toothed couplings 22 and then advance plungers 20 inside mandrels 24 to carry the tubes partially off the mandrels and into the closure applying devices.
