Abstract
944,468. Hot-water boilers; vertical steam boilers. PERRY HEATING APPLIANCES Ltd. Oct. 22, 1962, No. 39889/62. Heading F4A. A boiler for heating water for domestic purposes or for generating low pressure steam comprises an upright, cylindrical combustion chamber 1 having in its lower part within a protective hearth ring 5 an oil burner with a combustion grill 4 from which a ring of flame rises closely adjacent the combustion chamber wall. The top of the chamber is closed by a wall 8 below which is suspended by radiallyextending fins 12 encircling a flue gas exit 13, a baffle plate 10 with a depending skirt 9. Gases rising in the chamber are deflected into the space beneath the plate 10 by an annular-shaped baffle projection 14 and escape therefrom through the annular space between the skirt 9 and the combustion chamber wall to flow to the flue exit between the radial fins 12. The vertical wall and upper wall of the combustion chamber are enclosed in a water jacket 15 having a hot-water outlet 17 and a lower cold water inlet, not shown. In modifications, the baffle plate 10 may be located within the skirt 9 at some intermediate point or may be located at the bottom of the skirt.
