Abstract

540,951. Gas stoves &c. CASE, W. G. May 20. 1940, No. 8977. [Class 126] The combustion products from a sectional gas-fired central heating or domestic hot-water boiler or other gas burning appliance pass through a primary flue 10 consisting of a lower canopy 11 formed with a slot-shaped outlet 12 preferably having a slightly inclined baffle 13 along one edge to an upper canopy 14 having an aperture 15 in its upper surface surrounded by a flange 16 forming a connection piece for a chimney flue. The opening 17 between the canopies 11, 14 normally allows air to pass to the chimney so that the draught through the boiler remains substantially constant but also provides a relief outlet extending transversely of the boiler sections for the combustion products should the chimney be blocked or a down draught occur. The velocity head of a down draught is minimized by a pressure chamber 19 above the canopy 11. The whole assembly may be surrounded by a jacket b having an aperture to receive the flange 16 and a 'slot coinciding with the opening 17.
