[Also in Group XIII] A liquid or gaseous fuel fired boiler has a combustion chamber 9 surrounded by a bell-shaped water jacket 2, an annular passage 16 surrounding the water bell 2 and leading to a flue 7, a helical baffle 19 mounted in the passage 16 to be freely displaceable longitudinally of the passage and a wall 11 closing the open end of the combustion chamber 9 while leaving a space connecting the combustion chamber with the annular passage 16, at least part of the wall 12 being removable to allow access to the passage 16. The burner 8 is mounted in the wall 11. The baffle 19 is mounted on rods 22 and is of less width than the passage 16, so that it is easily removable for cleaning, and its pitch may decrease towards the fuel outlet end of the passage 16. A water jacket 1 connected to the water bell 2 surrounds the flue passage 16. A second boiler 28 is heated by the circulation of hot water from the jacket 1 and bell 2 through tubes 36, 27 and 32. In a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the end wall of the combustion chamber abuts its side wall, which has a triangular opening between the end wall and the first turn of the helical baffle.
