Abstract

The invention comprises 17-methyl-18-nor-Dhomoetiocholan-11-on derivatives having the formula: <FORM:0943956/C2/1> in which R may represent an -OH group, in which case R1 may designate either an acyloxy radical or an -OH group or a =O group; or R may designate a halogen radical in which case R1 will represent the oxygen atom =O, and processes for the preparation thereof which consist of or comprise any of the steps of reacting a 3-acyloxy-18-nor-D-homoetiocholane with a Grignard reagent to form the corresponding 3a -acyloxy-17-hydroxy-17-methyl-18-nor-D - homoetiocholan-11-one then saponifying this compound to form 3a , 17-dihydroxy-17-methyl-18nor-D-homoetiocholan-11-one oxidising the 3hydroxy thereof to form 17-hydroxy-17-methyl18-nor-D-homoetiocholane-3, 11-dione and then reacting this compound with a hydrogen halide to form the corresponding 17-halogeno-17-methyl18-nor-D-homoetiocholane-3, 11-dione. Oxidation of the 3-hydroxy group of 3a , 17-dihydroxy-17-methyl - 18 - nor - D - homoetiocholan-11-one may be effected with N-bromo-succinimide in tert-butanol.
