Abstract

940,938. Bearings. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Oct. 9, 1961 [March 8, 1961], No. 36213/61. Heading F2A. A roll, having shaft extensions 21a, 21b is mounted in pairs of bearings 22a, 22b and 23a, 23b which are in housings 22, 23 respectively; the bearings are arranged so as to apply a force couple to the roll, and the housings each have an integral lever-arm 25<1> or 25 through which the roll is supported in a position inwardly from the roll ends. The arms 25<1>, 25 are each supported by a roller 26<1>d or 26d carried by plates 26<1>c or 26c, said plates being mounted on rollers 26<1>a, 26<1>b or 26b, 26a which are on tracks 28<1>, 28. The plates 26<1>, 26 are screwably adjustable to position the rollers 26<1>d, 26d and so apply to the shafts 21a, 21b the force couples required which will overcome the deflection of the roll. The housings 22, 23 are each provided with vertical guides 33, 34.
