Abstract
736,634. Hollow rollers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. June -19, 1953 [Dec. 5, 1952], No. 17104/53. Class 34 (1). [Also in Groups XVI and XXIII] A roll assembly comprises a pair of selfcentring rolls 12 each having flanges 32, 34, Fig. 5, the distance between which is at least as great as the width of a strip or belt to be centred by the rolls, and a roll 14 having a supporting surface 54, Fig. 4, which is narrower than the strip or belt. Each roll 12 may be constructed in the manner described with reference to Fig. 2 of Specification 736,633 or, as shown, with two rolls 16 mounted on ball bearings 18 on a bent shaft 20 which is rotatably adjusted in a plate 22 until the peripheries of the rolls 16 lie closest together at the point where the strip or belt leaves them, their axes of rotation diverging in the direction of approach of the latter. The rolls 16, which are positively rotated and coupled by pins 30, engage a peripheral tongue 24 on the shaft, a second tongue 44 on the flange 34 engaging a groove 46 in a collar 48. The diameter of each roll increases towards its inner end where it is at least as great as the outside diameter of the flange 32 or 34.
