Abstract

785,680. Rollers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1955 [Feb. 1, 1955], No. 25330/55. Class 42 (2). [Also in Groups XVI and XXX] In a self-centring roller of the type having two roller sections, one each side of its transverse centre, the sections being adapted to rotate in unison at the same peripheral speed, adapted for aligning a strip of predetermined width, each section of the roller comprises a cylindrical portion 17 adjacent the transverse centre, a first conical portion 18 adjacent the cylindrical portion 17 and having decreasing diameter away from the portion 17, and a second conical portion 19 having increasing diameter away from the portion 18. The maximum diameter of the portion 19 is approximately the same as the diameter of the cylindrical portion 17 and the distance between the junctions of the portions 18, 19 on opposite sides of the centre is no greater than the width of the strip to be handled. A roller 4 as above may be mounted with three rollers 5, 6, 7 (not shown) to align an endless belt B.
