721,184. Belt gearing. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1952 [Dec. 7, 1951]. No. 24684/52. Class 80 (1). [Also in Groups XVI and XXX]. Apparatus for automatically aligning strip-like material such as a conveyer or driving belt with respect to a predetermined path of travel comprises a pair of rotatable shafts extending at rightangles to the said path of travel a flexible member such as a spring, rope or cable, fastened to and extending in tension between said shafts, and strip supporting members fastened to said flexible member, said strip supporting member providing frustro-conical strip-engaging surfaces on each side of the transverse centre liner of said flexible member with their larger diameter ends directed towards the centre line. In Fig. 2, a conveyer belt B is supported by members 10, 12, 14, 16 secured on a spring 8 extending between stub shafts 6 mounted in bearings 4 on supports 2. In a modification, Fig. 6, rollers 30 providing beltsupporting surfaces 36, 38 are secured by their parts 34 on a spring 28.
