939,129. Water-tube steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. Sept. 5, 1962 [Sept. 11, 1961], No. 34073/62. Class 123 (2). In a water-tube boiler comprising a combustion chamber 10 lined with steam generating tubes 24 and bounded by a row of screening tubes 20 forming part of one of two banks of steam generating tubes extending between a water drum 16 and a steam and water drum 14 and wherein a superheater 22 is disposed between the two banks, the tubes 20 of the screening row are offset in the region of the superheater to provide the gas flow passage thereto but are provided with ribs 30 bridging the inter-tube spaces or extend in actual contact with one another from the level of the top of the superheater to the roof of the combustion chamber thereby forming a baffle preventing by-passing of the superheater by the gases. The space between the point of contact of the screening tubes with the roof tubes 24 and the drum 14 may be sealed by a cast mass 32 of refractory material.
