Abstract

936,214. Two-part couplings. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. May 23, 1962 [June 8, 1961], No. 20822/61. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A coupling for plugging in the supply base of an oxygen breathing mask into an oxygen main in an aircraft and for effecting at the same time electrical contact for the microphone leads, comprises a plug member, Fig. 1, and a socket member, Fig. 2, having inter-engaging bayonet formations 14, 27, the plug member having a hollow axial probe 38 adapted to fit closely within a socket portion 12 of the socket member, which has a through passage normally closed by a spring-loaded valve 4. The valve 4 is displaced from its seating by the insertion of the probe 28 into the socket portion 2 and on such insertion and engagement of the bayonet fastening 14, 27, sprung contacts 24 on the plug member are brought into engagement with arcuate fixed contacts 15 or the socket member. In order to ensure correct engagement of the contacts, the outer body 16 of the socket member is formed with a notch 20 which must be engaged by a screw 22 on the plug member before the contacts 15, 24 can be engaged. A flexible hose leading to the mask is clamped on to a spigot 33 on the probe 28 and the microphone wire are connected to the terminals 34 of the pins 24.
