Abstract

935,167. Cartons. PROCTER & GAMBLE CO. March 6, 1962 [March 6, 1961], No. 8581/62. Class 18. An end-sealed sift-proof carton folded from a single blank has the adjacent ends of flaps 10, 11, 12 mitred, there being a gap of 2-6 degrees between adjacent flap ends which fills with adhesive when the lid 6 is closed. The adhesive is thermoplastic or a hot melt adhesive which is solid but flexible at room temperatures and fluid at 200‹F-400‹F. The flaps 10-12 tend to slope upwardly as shown before the lid 6 is closed and the flaps slide over the lid scraping some of the adhesive into the gap at the mitred corners and over the square end of flaps 10, 12 thereby completely sealing the corners. Excess of glue may be obtained at the corners by the provision of pockets on the surface of a glue wheel to cause the formation of spots of glue at the appropriate points and by providing glue on both the lid and the end flaps where the additional glue is required.
