A carton made of fibrous sheet material has sides 6, 7, 8, 9 with locking flaps 12, 13, 17, 18 at their ends which engage in slots 21, 22 in adjacent sides and a lid with cover flaps 35, 36, 37 which are fixed adhesively at 42, 43 to the side walls and have corners 44, 45 which lock behind the locking flaps 12, 13, 17, 18. The adhesive may be thermoplastic and the sheet material may be wax-coated, in which case the adhesive used is incompatible with the wax under which it is applied and becomes tacky at a higher temperature than the melting-point of wax.
