Abstract
933,473. Excessive current protection. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 15, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 40383/58. Class 38 (4). To limit the initial current surge when switching a transformer TR to a supply main, the main switch S1 is shunted by an impedance in the form of a resistor R in series with an auxiliary switch SR of smaller capacity which closes before the main switch. The impedance is equal to or slightly less than the impedance of the transformer primary winding in the unloaded condition. The load on the secondary winding may be a grid-controlled rectifier.
