Abstract

940,985. Transformers. B. KIRSCH, [trading as ELEKTROMOTOREN-KIRSCH, B. KIRSCH]. Aug. 23, 1960 [Feb. 26, 1960; July 7, 1960], No. 29155/60. Heading H1T. A portable welding transformer has a two part casing of synthetic plastics material internally recessed to locate the various transformer parts. A wound strip magnetic core 12 is provided with a secondary winding 14 and a tapped primary winding 13 whose tappings are connected to a switch 15. A condenser 16 is provided, and the casing has ventilating holes in the bottom and sides for cooling. Magnetic members 31 (Fig. 5) are disposed between the layers of the secondary winding to maintain a constant output voltage under varying loads. The tap changing switch 15, which permits variations in load current, includes an arrangement whereby a series resistor is incorporated in the circuit during switching. Output terminals 5 are provided on the casing.
