956,984. Excess current protection; transformer arrangements. METTOY CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1962 [Aug. 10, 1961], No. 28896/61. Heading H2H. A control system for supplying a load such as a toy train comprises a transformer whose primary winding 15 is in series with a capacitor 14, the impedance of the capacitor being chosen in relation to the input impedance of the transformer such that the primary current is lower when the secondary winding is short-circuited than when the secondary carries no load. A variable resistor 13 controls the reversible D.C. output supplied through rectifiers 22, 23 and change-over switch 24 to the terminals 27, 28. A capacitor discharge resistor 29 is provided. Theoretical considerations of the transformer design and basic circuit are discussed and typical graphs of transformer secondary voltage and primary current against secondary current are given, Fig. 2 (not shown). Additional load control may be provided by a variable resistor across the primary winding or across a tertiary winding.
