Abstract
1,265,569. Automatic voltage control. SIEMENS A.G. July 30, 1969 [July 31, 1968], No.38155/69. Heading G3R. Overload protection for a chopper type D.C. voltage regulator of the type wherein an (unspecified) electronic switch S is controlled by a control circuit R and a diode D1 allows a storage choke Dr1 to discharge through the load during off periods of the switch, comprises a current transformer Utr whose core is provided with an air-gap and which has primary windings I, II respectively connected in the main and discharge circuits as shown and a secondary winding III supplying two peak rectifier circuits D2, C3 and D3, C4 whose outputs are combined across a voltage divider R3, R4. A transistor Ts is supplied with an output from the divider R3, R4 and with a signal representative of the regulator output voltage derived from a divider R5, R6. During normal operation the transistor Ts is blocked and control circuit R varies the on/off periods of switch S in accordance with the variations of the output voltage from its predetermined value. When a predetermined maximum current is reached the transistor Ts becomes conductive and modifies the action of the control circuit R to reduce the conductive periods of the switch S or completely block it for a short period.
