Abstract

A voltage regulator for the output of an alternating current generator, comprising a main rectifier circuit for rectifying the output voltage of said alternating current generator and for generating the battery charging direct current voltage, an auxiliary rectifier for supplying excitation current to the armature winding of said generator, a switching transistor connected in series between said induction winding and the ground, a sensor circuit that is connected to the charging terminal of said battery, a control circuit for controlling the conductivity of said switching transistor so that when the measured voltage in said sensor circuit exceeds a predetermined value, the switching transistor is switched off and when the measured voltage becomes less than the predetermined value, the switching transistor is switched on, characterized by a protection circuit that has a first and a second resist gums connected in series between the output terminal of said auxiliary rectifier and the ground, and a diode connected between the junction of said first and second resistors and the input terminal of the measured voltage of the control circuit, whereby the output voltage of said auxiliary rectifier is made higher than the previously determined voltage and an operation signal is sent through said diode to the control circuit, whereby said switching transistor is forced to disconnect.
