Abstract

802,045. Rectifying. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1955 [Nov. 27, 1954], No. 33813/55. Class 38 (2). A D.C. load is normally supplied from a single phase supply through rectifiers G<SP>1</SP>1, G<SP>1</SP>2 connected to receive on the input side threephase current from the Scott connected secondary windings of transformers T1, T2, the primary windings of which are connected in series, and one of which, T2, has a saturable core and a capacitor C in parallel with its primary winding. This arrangement has a substantially level voltage characteristic over its working range. To use the arrangement for supplying higher current, e.g. for rapid loading of storage batteries at the expense of a falling characteristic, ganged switches S1 S2, S3 are moved from the dotted to the solid line position. The primary windings are then connected substantially in parallel and the rectifiers are arranged as a single-phase bridge. The heating of transformer T2 may be reduced by connecting to primary winding in parallel with part only of the primary winding of transformer T1.
