Abstract
930,908. Valves. A. J. HARDCASTLE. Nov. 24, 1959 [Nov. 25, 1958], No. 39856/59. Class 135. A fluid-flow control valve comprises a seat member 16 having an inner seat 17 and an outer seat 18. A movable valve member 19 is attached to a spindle 10 and is formed with a valve face 20 which co-operates with the seat 18. A second imperforate valve member 22, having a radial flange, is mounted in the valve member 19 for limited relative movement therewith and is loaded by a spring 25. When the spindle is moved to close the valve the member 22 first engages the seat 17 and further movement of the spindle causes the valve face 20 to engage the seat 18. The head of the member 22 is preferably of truncated conical shape. In a modification the inner valve member is attached to the spindle and the outer member engages its seat first in closing the valve. In a further modification the spindle acts through a spring on the outer valve member which is then able to open to relieve excess pressure in the space between the valve members which may occur during a change in temperature, for example. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 826,852.
