Abstract
928,902. Making commutators. A.G.M. INDUSTRIES Ltd., and A. R. MILLS. April 9, 1962 [June 19, 1961], No. 22089/61. Class 83 (2). A method of making a commutator comprises the steps of printing a metal film 11 on one face of a block of insulating material 12 in positions to form the required segments 17, with the film extending outwardly beyond the maximum radius of the segments, turning down the insulating material to form a disc of the required diameter leaving the film protruding beyond the periphery of the disc and bending the metal film over on to the edge of the disc. The insulating material is formed with a central hole 13 to be a push fit on an armature shaft. The disc initially has a radius greater than the finished radius by approximately the thickness of the disc. The parts of the film bent over the edges of the disc form tags 18 to which the armature coils are connected.
