Abstract

604,908. Telephone receivers. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS, Ltd., and ROGERS, E. W. April 27, 1944, No. 7862. [Class 40 (iv)] In a telephone receiver comprising a conductive ribbon located in a magnetic field and through which the signal currents are passed, the side edges of the ribbon include parts having a thickness greater than that of the portion of the ribbon intermediate the said edges. The thickened portions may be formed by furling the edge portions of the ribbon, Figs. 3, 4, 5 (not shown), by cementing non-conductive strips of insulating material on one or both sides of the ribbon, Fig. 6 (not shown), or by applying a layer of paint or lacquer on the edge portions, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown). In the telephone receiver shown, the ribbon 10, which is corrugated, has thickened portions 11 and its ends are clamped between metal plates 16, 17 to which a panel 14 with a rectangular aperture 15 is secured by bolts 18. The ribbon is located between polepieces 21 secured to a semicircular permanent magnet 20 and terminal tags 23 are connected to two of the bolts 18.
