[Class 37] One or a number of rectifier units 12 with corners cut away as at 16 are held to one or both sides of a base-plate 10 by strips 17, 18, which may be of metal and act as bus-bars, along their edges, fastened to the base-plate by means such as rivets 19 or bolts, which pass through insulating washers 23, located in the cut-away parts. The plates 12 are of metal, coated with selenium, preferably on one side, a counter electrode 13 being applied so as to leave an uncovered edge all round, this edge and the edge of the counter electrode being covered with a layer of varnish 15. A number of such assemblies may be stacked one above the other in parallel and further groups-also bolted on to be connected in the usual " bridge " manner.
