561,214. Composite metal panel; covers for openings. DEHN, F. B. (Vultee Aircraft, Inc.). Sept. 7, 1942, No. 12599. [Classes 20 (ii) and 107] A composite metal panel, which may be used as a floor section to cover an opening therein, comprises a thin metal sheet 10 and an expanded metal sheet which is first flattened and then bent so that the alternate bonds 14 of the strands of the meshing lie in two parallel planes and are interconnected by the inclined strands 15 which form V-shaped struts between the bonds 14a which are staggered in the respective planes. The bonds 14a in one plane are bonded to the thin metal plate while the bonds in the parallel plane are bonded to a constructional plate member, or a second openwork plate member 13, or to a second flat expanded sheet-metal plate 24, Fig. 10, to form a unit. The edges of the plates 13, 24 are inclined to meet the thin metal plate 10, the edges 10a of which are wrapped around them to form a seal. The thickened edge may be provided with stud fasteners 22.
