Abstract

927,379. Submarine vessels. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Feb. 5, 1962, No. 4390/62. Class 113. A watertight submersible marine pressure vessel 10 comprises a series of metal rings 18 arranged coaxially in side-by-side relation to form a substantially cylindrical wall 16 and having opposed faces in abutting relation, the rings having openings formed therein between their inner and outer peripheries, tie-rods 20 extending through said openings parallel to the axis of the rings, means (e.g. plates 12, 14) closing the opposite ends of the cylindrical wall 16, means (e.g. nuts 22) connected to the ends of the tie rods and compressing the rings tightly together, and a sheath 24 of metal surrounding the outside of the cylindrical wall for protecting the rings against corrosion and sealing the joints between their opposed faces.
