Abstract

928,699. Pipe joints. J. GACHOT. Aug. 10, 1961 [Aug. 24, 1960], No. 28972/61. Class 99(1). In a fluid-tight joint between two tubular members 1, 2 fitted with flanges 3, 4, a metallic, frusto-conical washer 15 is housed in an annular chamber 7 provided within the opposite flanges of the members and is of a height which prevents the flanges from coming into mutual contact when the washer is in an unstrained condition. Clamping members, e.g. bolts, cause the flanges to be applied one against another by subsequent bending of the washer the outermost and innermost edges of which come into contact with the respective corners of the chamber; the angles a of the washer at those edges are smaller than the corresponding angles A of the said corners. The flanges may be provided with grooves 11, 12 which are filled with a hard metal such as a cobalt alloy.
