Abstract

807,680. Pipe joints. B. A. L. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1957 [Feb. 8, 1956], No. 3915/56. Class 99(1). Conically flared ends of a pipe 12 and a tubular part 13 are drawn together by a screwthreaded member 14 engaging the part 13 and contain a sleeve 17 which has intermediate its ends an intergral pheripheral flange 16 surrounded on opposite sides by rubber, &c. rings 15. The diameter of flange 16 is smaller than the maximum diameter of the flared ends and is chamfered at its periphery. The rings 15 have conical external peripheries oppositely directed to each other and complementary to the conically flared ends which they engage. The rings may be formed of natural or synthetic rubber, synthetic plastic, any of these materials encased in a metal sheath or entirely of soft metal. On tightening the screw-threaded members are trapped between the flared surfaces to form a seal.
