Abstract
927,298. Indirectly-heated cathodes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 5, 1962 [March 28, 1961], No. 11333/61. Class 39 (1). The heater 2 of an indirectly heated cathode is spaced from the emissive sleeve 1 by a cored spacer 3 of refractory insulating material in the form of an open helical coil embracing the heater, which spacer is shaped to have a protuberance 4 helically circumscribing its surface. The spacer may be formed by overwinding a tungsten core 5 with a molybdenum wire, and forming the overwound core into a helix, which is then coated with insulating material by electrophoresis, dipping or spraying followed by sintering. The molybdenum overwinding may then be removed by etching in a bath comprising equal parts by volume of concentrated nitric acid, sulphuric acid and water, to leave a hollow protuberance. Specification 847,019 is referred to.
