Abstract

926,827. Rollers. MOUNT HOPE MACHINERY S.A. July 6, 1960 [July 6, 1959], No. 23679/60. Class 42 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A roller suitable for guiding a web comprises two flanges 30 fixed in spaced relation on an axle 32 mounted to rotate in bearings 33, and a plurality of bars disposed radially equidistant from the axle 32 and supported for free longitudinal movement in aligned bushings 34. Each bar embodies a web supporting shoe 36 having end portions 37 welded thereto and slidable in the bushings 34. The shoes are of T-shape and are supported for rotation with the axle by rollers 38 riding in longitudinal channels 40 in a hub 42 secured to the axle by a setscrew 43. The bars 36-37 are free to travel with and accommodate lateral movement of the web and are restored to a central position during their idle travel downwardly, Fig. 4, on cooperation of their end portions 37 with two cam tracks 44. In other embodiments, Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown) the bars are restored to a central position by two rotating rubber-faced discs and by electromagnetic means. In the embodiment of Fig. 16 the roller carrying the bars and a further roller are pivoted in a frame about a vertical axis and two cam tracks 85 in the form of flexible annuli are provided, one at each end of the bars. When the roller-supporting frame is pivoted to correct misalignment of the web the tracks 85 are flexed to a helical shape to positively move the bars longitudinally at all web-engaging points, the other half of the tracks return the bars to a central position.
